This will mark the rocker's first Long Island gig in six years.

When Gary U.S. Bonds thinks about the rollout of his comeback album "Dedication," his first collaboration with Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, all he can do is laugh.

"My manager asked, 'How do you want to promote this?'" Bonds recalls, thinking back to 1981 when the album hit the Top 30 and the single "This Little Girl" reached No. 11. "I said, 'Let's just tour Long Island.' We played just the clubs - in front of 150 to 200 people a night. We didn't make a lot of money, but we had a lot of fun."

Bonds plans to conjure that feeling again Friday when he and his band The Roadhouse Rockers play "Dedication, " as well as his classics like "Quarter to Three" and "New Orleans," at My Father's Place at The Roslyn Hotel - a request from the supper club's co-founder Michael "Eppy" Epstein. "It was Eppy's idea and it should be a nice time," Bonds says. "It's been a long time since I've played out here, maybe six years. I have a lot of neighbors saying they're coming."

The US government bond market fell to its lowest level in nearly a year this week - but Wall Street still wanted Gary U.S. Bonds to shut down the markets on Christmas Eve.

The NYSE tapped the 1960s "School Is Out" rocker to ring the closing bell at 1 p.m. on Thursday and sing "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town."

In other financial puns - Bonds' autobiography is titled "By U.S. Bonds: That's My Story." It's in its second printing, we're told, and includes anecdotes about close colleagues including Sam Cooke and Bruce Springsteen.

Gary U.S. Bonds is known for hits like "New Orleans" and "Quarter To Three," and his autobiography is in its second printing.

Music icon Gary U.S. Bonds will ring the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Christmas Eve in addition to performing "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" with his wife, Big Mama, and daughter, Little Mama.

The 1 p.m. event on Thursday will also serve as a celebration of the second printing of Bonds' best-selling autobiography, "By U.S. Bonds, That's My Story." In the book - written with Stephen Cooper and with a forward by the E Street Band's Steven Van Zandt - Bonds recounts stories of traveling with B.B. King and Sam Cooke, his first big break with Dick Clark, hit songs "New Orleans" and "Quarter To Three" and how Bruce Springsteen sought him out to perform with him. The book is available at Barnes & Noble, Amazon and Bonds' website.

Born Gary Anderson, the singer's name was changed to U.S. Bonds by record producer Frank Guida, according to All Music, which notes that Guida double- and triple-tracked Bonds' voice, "and the resulting murky production gave all the hits (including 'Quarter to Three,' 'School Is Out,' and 'Dear Lady Twist') a party-in-outer-space quality all their own." The singer made "a couple of excellent solo albums in the early '80s with the help of Bruce Springsteen," according to All Music.

Springsteen co-produced this thrilling 1981 comeback record for Sixties rocker Bonds (most famous for "Quarter to Three"), keeping The River's party rolling by giving him three songs that didn't make that album's final cut. The following year, Springsteen gave Bonds another seven original songs for On the Line - but Dedication was the one that included Number 11 single "This Little Girl," which explodes out of your speakers the first time you hear it (or when you play it 20 times in a row).

Bruce Factor: Springsteen co-produced the album with Bonds and Steven Van Zandt; he also played guitar and sang a duet with Bonds on "Jole Blon."

Last week, the rock-and-roll pioneer, Friend of Bruce, and Long Island resident Gary U.S. Bonds celebrated his seventy-fifth birthday at the B. B. King Blues Club & Grill. Bonds is a jocular presence, and grateful, in his eighth decade, to be enjoying a career onstage. He's had a birthday concert at the club for the past six years; last year's, his seventy-fourth, was a big to-do. It doubled as a party for the release of his memoir, "By U.S. Bonds," and featured performances by his original saxophone player, Gene (Daddy G.) Barge, who is eighty-seven; the beloved Jersey misanthrope Southside Johnny ("A man I hate to call my friend, but I have to, because he's a dear friend," Bonds said); and Chubby Checker, who sat on a stool and gave the band orders: "Can we punk up the bass? Rock the drums? I want to hear some Chuck Berry guitar, some Jerry Lee Lewis piano, I want the sax player to bubble under on the arrangement, E two-three bop-bam, and stick in a load of Fats Domino."

This is the kind of stuff that can only happen when you are working so far outside the margins that you can do whatever you want, even if you aren't sure at first. Whether or not the reason why this works so well is because it's so expected doesn't matter. This is a Christmas party I want to be invited to---and I'll hang out until at least a quarter to three.

The story goes that one night a couple of Jersey musicians by the name of Springsteen and Van Zandt wandered into an oldies gig at a rundown bar in 1980. Onstage was one Gary Anderson, who had racked up quite a few top ten hits in the 60s under the name Gary U.S. Bonds, but had pretty much been written off in a music business climate that had no mercy for anyone over the age of 28 years old.
